The Theme of the Congress is: “Physiotherapy beyond 100 years of Rehabilitation”

The Scientific Committee of the World Physiotherapy Africa Region congress 2024 hosted by The South African Society of Physiotherapy (SASP), invites you to submit a Late-Breaking abstract for oral and/or e-poster presentations in the following categories:

  1. Innovation and Health Promotion
  2. Early intervention
  3. Rehabilitation
  4. Education
  5. Interprofessional Management and Collaboration
  6. Student Projects (undergraduate)
This is an opportunity to submit your most recent research and have the insights presented at World Physiotherapy Congress 2024 in Cape Town, South Africa. In the submission system, you will be asked when your project was completed to ensure the most recent research is identified. Successful abstracts may be scheduled in specific “late-breaking” abstract platform presentation sessions if they meet the high standard of scientific merit for this category. All other abstracts that are submitted and do not meet the criteria of late breaking will be reviewed and considered by the congress programme committee but may be scheduled as poster presentations and will not be included in the abstract presentation awards selection.
Abstracts are invited that:
  • report on the latest research with original scientific data [this includes systematic/narrative reviews and meta-analyses]; submissions with pending results and study protocols will not be accepted.
  • address new and unique developments in practice, theory, education, management, policy, and resources.
  • describe innovative ways in which established methods have been adapted to meet the changing needs of practice.

Call for Abstracts Deadline: 13 June 2024

Please submit your abstract/s within the word limit under the following headings as indicated:

Abstracts must be structured using the following format [not more than 250 words in total, 11 font Arial, double spacing]: (Also refer to South African Journal of Physiotherapy Submission guidelines: SUBMISSION GUIDELINES)

Original research: 250 words to cover a Background, Objectives, Method, Results, Conclusion and Clinical Implications

Randomised clinical trial: 250 words to cover a Background, Methods/design, Discussion, Conclusion, Clinical Implications and Trial Registration. The clinical trial registry name and URL, and the registration number must be included at the end of the abstract.

Systematic Reviews: 250 words to cover a Background, Methods/design, Discussion, Conclusion and Clinical Implications.

Case reports: 250 words to cover an Introduction, Patient presentation, Management and outcome, and Conclusion.

Innovation: 250 words to cover Background (context and purpose); Interest/focus of presentation; Description of work done (links to similar work); Implications; Value to fellow practitioners; Conclusion.

Discussion Forums: 250 words to cover Background (context and purpose); Interest/focus of presentation; Implications; Value to fellow practitioners; Conclusion.
