Fort Hare Dairy Farm - https://amadlelo.co.za/fort-hare-dairy-trust/
Production at the first Amadlelo Agri project started in 2007 when the modern 900-cow commercial dairy operation in Alice went operational. More than a decade later, the project, which is a partnership with the University of Fort Hare, continues to be economically viable. It’s an innovative scheme in the Alice area which has a group of seasoned commercial farmers mentoring black farm workers so that the workers can become successful farm managers and owners. This approach is premised on the belief that land reform will be successful when black people have the skills to manage farms.
The partnership also brings together the academic and commercial expertise which enables the proper and sustainable transfer of knowledge and skills. Already, the first cohort of graduates is playing an important role as junior managers in the sector.
Production: 200ha, 900 cows - produces 10,000 litres of milk per day. Produce sold to the Dairy Group
