Paper Submissions - closed

The African Farm Management Association (AFMA) invites interested Farm Management and

Agribusiness Professionals, Scientists, Industry Practitioners and Policy Makers to submit papers for the forthcoming Congress planned for the 19 – 23 November 2023, at the International Convention Centre (ICC), East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa.

The 13th AFMA Conference follows a successful 12th Conference held at the PANARI Hotel, Nairobi,

Kenya on 21 -25 November 2021. The Forum will provide a platform for Farm and Agribusiness Specialists and Other Stakeholders in the public and private sectors to exchange knowledge and experiences with a view to promoting Climate Smart Agribusiness Development in Africa.

The objectives of AFMA are to:

1. Advance the knowledge and understanding of farm business management and to exchange

ideas and information about farm management theory and practice throughout the continent of

Africa and the world.

2. Improve cooperation among stakeholders in Farm management with an interest in African issues

at the regional and international levels.

3. Promote capacity building, research, policy dialogue and interest of Farm Management in Africa.

4. Contribute to the wider objective of agricultural productivity in an effort to reduce poverty,

enhance food security and sustainable use of farm resources in Africa.

Key Information

Papers previously presented will not be accepted.

  • Your paper will undergo a double-blind peer review by the International committee within two to three weeks after its receipt.
  • Results of the paper review will be sent to the author by 21st August
  • The Conference Chair serves as the head of the scientific committee and will take the final decision on papers.
  • Acceptance or rejections of the paper will be sent to you by 21st August

  1. Agripreneurs coping mechanisms in the face of external shocks: Building resilience in farms and agribusinesses.
  2. Innovations in urban farming in African green cities for food security.
  3. The integration of women and youth into agribusiness
  4. Emerging trends in agribusiness financing.
  5. Cross-cutting issues in farm management, agricultural extension, and communication

Options for submission

Only full papers for oral or poster presentation shall be accepted for submission

Papers must be allocated to a specific Theme, These will be available within the submission portal.

Scientific paper /  Poster Submission (Should not exceed 6000 words in total.)

Guidelines

  1. Please consider the relevance of your paper in light of the symposium theme  “Pathways to Commercialization, Lessons and insights for Climate Smart Agribusiness Development in Africa” and submit it under one of the themes.
  2. Papers must be written in English (US), submitted online in the correct format using the Word template provided and all other required information must be supplied.
  3. All papers will be subjected to peer review and only the authors of accepted papers will be able to present their work at AFMA2023, either as an oral presentation or a poster.
  4. Authors will be notified if their paper has been accepted for an oral presentation or a poster by 21st August 2023.
  5. Accepted papers will only be included in the AFMA2023 program and published in the symposium’s e-book of papers (APP)  if at least the presenting author has registered by 19 September 2023.
  6. Oral presentations will be 15 minutes with 5 minutes for Q&A. Further guidelines will be posted after close off.
  7. Poster sizes are A1, further instructions will be posted after close off.
  8. After your paper submission is received, you will be sent a confirmation e-mail with a reference number and a link for you to log back into your profile and update where required.
