Her special interests are lung ultrasound in pediatric respiratory diseases, children pneumonia, cystic fibrosis, chronic cough and preschool wheeze. She wrote papers on pediatrics respiratory field, with focus on lung ultrasound scoring development in pneumonia and cystic fibrosis and textbooks for residents doctors in pediatric pulmonology, lung ultrasound and general pediatrics .
She is actively involved in the development of Pediatric Pulmonology Training program in Romania.
Assoc Prof Pierluigi Ciet
Ass. Professor
Erasmus MC - Sophia Children's Hospital
Dynamic Imaging of the Pediatric Airway and Diaphragm
11:30 AM - 12:20 PMBiography
Dr. Pierluigi Ciet’s passion for cardiothoracic imaging began during his residency at the CF center in Treviso, Italy, a satellite of the largest European CF center in Verona. Under Dr. Giovanni Morana’s mentorship, he explored thoracic MRI as a radiation-free alternative to CT. This led to a 12-month research fellowship at the CF center in Rotterdam, where he collaborated with Prof. Harm Tiddens. Upon completing his residency, Prof. Tiddens offered Dr. Ciet a Ph.D. position focused on thoracic MRI in pediatric and adult patients.
Dr. Ciet further honed his expertise through a clinical fellowship in Cardiothoracic Imaging at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Boston Children’s Hospital, under Profs. Alexander Bankier, Philip Boiselle, and Edward Lee. This training provided him with a comprehensive understanding of lung diseases and highlighted MRI's potential as a diagnostic and monitoring tool.
Since returning to Erasmus MC in 2014, Dr. Ciet has developed MRI protocols for various indications, assessing lung structure and function. His contributions include protocols for structural changes and inflammation in CF, dynamic airway and diaphragmatic assessments, and participation in the Generation R study to define new asthma determinants. He also led a multicenter study to develop VIPS-MRI for CF patients and researched bronchopulmonary dysplasia, congenital lung malformations, and ILD.
Currently, Dr. Ciet is a Pediatric and Thoracic Radiologist at Erasmus MC – Sophia Children’s Hospital and an Associate Professor at the University of Cagliari, Italy. He supervises seven Ph.D. students, continuing to advance thoracic imaging and its clinical applications.
Prof Jason Woods
Director Of Research
Cincinnati Children's
Lung MRI: The Future is Now
1:00 PM - 1:40 PMBiography
Dr. Jason C. Woods is the Luther Foundation Research Chair and Professor of Pediatrics (Pulmonary Medicine) and Radiology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and the University of Cincinnati. He is the Director of Research in Pulmonary Medicine, Director of the Center for Pulmonary Imaging Research and Co-Director of the Cincinnati Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia Center. Dr Woods received his Ph.D. in physics from Washington University, and after a Fellowship in Radiology and Pulmonary Medicine, his early career was split between faculty and university administration at Washington University before moving to Cincinnati in 2013. His research career has been focused on translational imaging with CT and hyperpolarized-gas MRI, outcomes improvement, and clinical trials in both obstructive and restrictive lung diseases in pediatrics and adults, with emphasis on multidisciplinarity, interventions, and imaging in neonatal populations like those born prematurely. Dr Woods has a longstanding interest in rapid clinical translation of research, particularly as it relates to early neonatal disease detection, obstructive pathophysiology, and testing of new therapeutics.
